Onward to Cambodia

From our very relaxing time in 4000 Islands we continued on to Cambodia. After a very cool boat ride and a short distance on a bus we made it to the Laos-Cambodia boarder. It cost us a total of $28 to procure our tourist visas as well as line a few pockets. Alex literally saw an official take his two dollar departure card fee and put it in his back pocket. But all in all the boarder crossing went smoothly. We hooped on another bus from there that would take us to the Kratie, Cambodia. The bus, unfortunately, had been over booked by about a dozen people. As such, Alex and Garrett were stuck sitting on tiny, red, plastic stools in the aisles for the sweltering hot 4 hour bus ride. Once in Kratie, our party of four was joined by a guy from LA named Fernando. An Aussie named Jake owned the guesthouse where Garrett and I stayed and was able to direct us to an excellence noodle stall street vendor for dinner. Jake proved to be a very good resource. The next morning the five of us set off  to explore a nearby island in the middle of the Mekong. There we rented bicycles and cycled around the island, visiting a Buddhist temple as well as seeing the flooded village there that had simply constructed docks attached to the houses and continued life as usual. Before leaving the island, the guys struck up a game of soccer with a handful of local kids: Football is a universal language. That evening we celebrated Alex's 21st birthday with excellent local food and a few beers. The next morning we stared the day bright and early (waking up at 6 am) to have one of our more interesting transit days to Siem Reap.

More tales of Cambodia to come! We need to get back to our room where our tuk-tuk driver, Chet is meeting us soon! Until later, Ash
